Dentistry
Missing or broken teeth can be restored with single crowns or fixed bridgework. When a tooth is lost, the nearby teeth may shift towards the empty space, or the teeth in the opposite jaw may move up or down toward the space. This places unusual stress on both the teeth and tissues in your mouth.
A crown looks like a tooth and is hollow inside, like a thimble. Crowns are used to strengthen weak teeth and to improve esthetics. They are indicated for broken teeth, teeth treated with a root canal and teeth that have large fillings. The tooth is prepared by reducing its size, so that the crown can be cemented or bonded over it. The crown is fabricated by a ceramist in the laboratory froman impression of the prepared tooth according to our exact specifications. Crowns can be made out of gold or all porcelain that is fused to an inner metal core. All porcelain crowns are usually placed on anterior teeth to achieve natural looking results.
Fixed bridgework is used to replace one or more missing teeth. The teeth adjacent to the missing teeth are prepared or reduced in size and serve as anchors for the fixed bridge. The patient wears a temporary acrylic bridge for a short period of time so that a permanent bridge can be fabricated in the laboratory. Dr. Weiss has always and continues to use the finest laboratory technicians and ceramists throughout the United States. None of our laboratories outsource to other countries and use only high quality materials.
