Periodontal disease (gum disease) is an inflammation or infection that attacks the gums and bone that hold your teeth in place. It is caused by bacteria in plaque. In its early stage, gum disease is called gingivitis. A later and more serious stage is called periodontitis. Every person needs a strong foundation in their mouth. Healthy gums are that strong foundation.

An appointment with one of our hygienists always includes an evaluation of your mouth, an oral cancer screening, periodontal charting of bone levels, pocket depths and a meticulous cleaning of your teeth. If necessary a deeper cleaning also referred to as scaling and root planing with local anesthetic can be performed in our office to treat diseased gums. Home care instructions are always part of any hygiene appointment and provide you with the necessary knowledge to maintain a beautiful smile and teeth that last a lifetime!
